President Mahama promises to complete all abandoned projects


President John Dramani Mahama has promised to complete all abandoned development projects that were initiated by his predecessors.
He said it was expedient to complete such programmes as they had the potential to create job opportunities to make every Ghanaian comfortable.

President Mahama gave this promise when he cut the sod for the renovation of the Aboabo Supermarket project in Tamale as part of his two-day official visit to the Northern Region.

The project was initiated by the late General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong's regime in the Tamale Metropolis in 1974 and was abandoned after he was overthrown.

After the renovation, the supermarket would be used as a Shea nut market and hundreds of provision shops would also be built to make the place a one-stop shop in the Tamale Metropolis.

President Mahama said development projects were meant to create opportunities for the citizenry and his administration would source funding for all those uncompleted ones and initiate new ones.

He said in spite of the economic challenges the government was facing, development projects would be executed to better the lots of all Ghanaians irrespective of their geographical location.

He said the Aboabo project would also be used as a cereal and grains market as beans, groundnuts, maize, rice, soya beans, millet and sorghum would be sold for both domestic consumption and for export.

President Mahama said the move would invigorate government to pursue its economic diversification programme to reduce over reliance on cocoa, gold and timber that had been the economic mainstay of the country.
