Kwesi Appiah dismissed as Head Coach 


Reports say Ghana's football authority F.A  has dismised Black Stars Coach, Kwasi Appiah as head coach of the Black Stars following a loss of confidence in his ability by players and some management members of the team.

Players like Kevin-Prince Boateng and Adam Kwarasey, for instance, have been vocal in their criticism of Appiah’s leadership qualities, with the 27-year-old Schalke midfielder describing him as a good man, but a bad coach.

After Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw by Uganda in the first match of the AFCON qualifiers, the GFA resolved to sack Appiah if he went on to lose the following match against Togo in Lome.

Though Appiah managed to come away with a hard-fought 3-2 victory, the FA deemed his performance to be unsatisfactory and decided to get rid of him anyway.

Public opinion has been against Appiah since Ghana crashed out of the first round of the Brazil 2014 World Cup, earning only one point out of a possible nine. It marked Ghana’s worst ever performance at the World Cup, and left many passionate Black Stars supporters disappointed.

Appiah’s decision to drop Adam Kwarasey after the Strømsgodset criticised his technical team did not do well to improve the coach’s standing among Ghanaians.

Appiah will now be replaced by his former boss, Milovan Rajevac, who has arrived in the country and has been interviewed by the FA.
Rajavac has already told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he cannot wait to get into the job.

“I cannot wait to join the family again. I am very excited to be back here; my second home. It is always relaxing and I love it here,” he said earlier in the week.

The FA’s original plan, which was to have Rajevac superintend over Appiah as Technical Advisor, was discarded after what was deemed as a string of poor performances against Uganda and Togo.

It’s not clear if an open caustic and abrasive criticism of Appiah's tactics by midfielder Andre Ayew in the dying embers of the Togo match in Lome hastened the FA’s decision to get rid of Appiah.
