Universities Roll Out Ebola Preparedness Plan As They Re-Open For Academic Work

Parents and Students can heave a sigh of relief as tertiary institutions have put in place well-structured preparedness plan on Ebola. 

These institutions have established screening and Isolation centres and printed flyers and well as posters on the Ebola disease.

Speaking on Radio Ghana's Current Affairs Programe, Behind the News, the institutions gave the assurance that their students are safe.

The Head of University Relations of the University of Mines and Technology-Tarkwa, Appiah Kubi, who says the university, has made screening of all students a compulsory component of the registration process. 

For the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, only International students will be screened at the university's hospital. 

Deputy Registrar in-Charge of University Relations, Vincent Lomotey said the university has printed flyers and hand bills on Ebola.

A Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Samuel Ofori Bekoe says although the university has a preparedness plan on Ebola, an intensified education on the disease is the surest way to battle it. 

He expressed sadness over government's directive that universities must foot the bill on the purchase of protective gears.
