Ghana Health Service Calls For Cooperation Between Food Handlers And Public To Stop Spread Of Cholera

The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira says it is the mandate of the Ministry of Local Government and the District Assemblies to enforce the by-laws on chop bar and food vending in the country. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana on how best to control the spread of cholera, Dr Appiah Denkyira called for cooperation between food handlers and the general public to stop preventable deaths. 

Dr Appiah Denkyira also called for an organized way of managing of polythene bags. 

He said pouring hot food into such bags have health implications. 

Meawhile, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly says it is stepping up efforts to ensure that the Assembly's by-laws on sanitation are enforced to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in the Metropolis. 

As such, all food vendors who sell in the open will be prosecuted if they fail to strictly comply with the guidelines on food handling. 

The Head of Public Health Department of the AMA, Dr Sampson Anim-Boateng stated this on Radio Ghana’s 'Behind The News.'
