Obuasi Municipal Assembly receives more than GhC 120 Cedis from Anglogold Ashanti as property rate for 3rd quarter of 2014

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has received an amount of more than 120 thousand Ghana Cedis from the Obuasi Mine of Anglogold Ashanti being the property rate of the company for the third quarter of this year. 

Aside from this money, the Assembly has as well received its fourth quarter share of the Common Fund amounting to 208 thousand, 420 Ghana Cedis. 

The Municipal Chief Executive, Richard Ofori-Agyemang, who disclosed this, revealed also, that the Assembly has again taken delivery of over one point-one million Ghana Cedis from the Urban Development Grant, the District Development Facility and the School Feeding Programme. 

The MCE was addressing members of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly at the opening of the second ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly.
 
Mr. Ofori-Agyemang noted that with the monies accrued, the Assembly will now be able to provide building materials for the Assembly Members to complete some of the community-initiated development projects. 

Additionally, the Assembly will be able to finance some of the projects it has already started for the advancement of the municipality. 

These include the construction of a four point-five million Ghana Cedi Obuasi Horsey Lorry terminal complex.
 
The other projects included the construction of a Divisional Police headquarters, selected roads in the municipality, a health centre at Kunka,  markets at Kwabenakwa, Koffiekrom, Odumase, Pomposo and Nkanprom. 

Touching on the street naming project, Mr. Ofori-Agyemang said the technical work which involves layout scanning, tracking, geo-referencing, mapping and ground truth0ing, has been completed with an input from the traditional leaders in the area. 

In all, 750 streets have been identified for naming. 

The MCE proposed that some of the High Streets in the Municipality be named after the late Paul Victor Obeng said to be the highest ranked political figure from the Adansi traditional area, the late Professor John Evans Atta-Mills and the first ever District Chief Executive for Obuasi, the late Reverend DeGraft Kwame Agyei, whose achievements, the Assembly Members, noted, were yet to be surpassed.
