Nana Addo Sweeps NPP Special votes with 81.28% 

The New Patriotic Party’s special delegate’s congress that started at 0700 hours on Sunday at the party’s headquarters centre has ended with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s 2012 presidential candidate leading with 65 votes.
   
Mr Alan Kyeremanteng, the closest contender had seven votes whilst Mr Kofi Konadu Apraku and Mr Osei Ameyaw had two votes each.
    
Mr Asamoah Boateng managed one vote whereas Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh and Mr Joe Ghartey zero.
     
Ten more centres are yet to declare their results while the overall results are expected to be declared by 1700 hours.
     
Ninety-one people were expected to vote at the Party’s national headquarters centre but only 77 cast their votes and there were no spoilt ballots, according to Electoral Commission officials.
     
About 787 delegates are expected to votes in the Special Delegates Congress in 11 polling centres in the 10 regional capitals and the national headquarters.
     
The exercise is to cut down the number of presidential hopefuls from seven to five as required by the party’s constitution.
     
About 140, 000 delegates are to vote at a later date in October to choose the flagbearer for the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
     
Mr Owusu Boateng, External Branch Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Italy urged the leadership of the party to develop guidelines to prevent the emergence of splinter groups and forestall future division.

Results from the  Western Region indicate that Nana Addo topped the list of seven contestants in the special congress of the party in Western Region.

The congress saw Nana Akuffo Addo polling 45 out of the 61 votes cast.
 
Meanwhile, Sixty one delegates out of 68 voted in the election supervised by Mr. Steve Opoku-Mensah, the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.

Mr Alan kyeremanteng had zero, Joe Ghartey, seven, Konadu Apraku, 0, Asamoah Boateng, seven, Osei Ameyaw 0, Addai Nimo  and Francis Addai 0.

Mr. Albert Agyekum, MP for Mpohor said the elections only went to strengthen the internal democracy in the party and entreated party supporters to jubilate with utmost care.

Mr. J. K. Mensah,  Coordinator of Friends of Nana Addo encouraged the other aspirants to step down and rally behind Nana Addo in the 2016 elections.
 
Reports from Tamale, say  Nana Addo  polled 62 votes out of the 70 total votes cast while his closest contender Mr Alan Kyeremanteng managed four votes.

Mr Joe Ghartey, a former Attorney General and Francis Addai-Nimoh had two votes each.

Three of the seven candidates, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a former Minister of Information and Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman had no votes.

The election, which was held under tight security, was supervised by Mr Bruce Ayisi, Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.

He said they expected 71 delegates to cast their but 70 of them voted as at the close of voting at 15:00 hours.

Mr Mohammed Kudus, Northern Regional Communications Director of the NPP commended the supporters of all the aspirants for conducting themselves in a civil manner.
