Eastern Region Marks World Health Day.            

The Eastern Region has marked World drugs day with a call on civil and international communities to recognise drug use as a disorder and not a crime. 

This will prevent drug users from being victimised or feel dejected by the society but enable them to seek medical treatment. 

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Frimpong, who made the call, said recent findings have led to the development of effective treatment for brain damaged by drugs to recover, therefore there is hope for drug addicts. 

Madam Frimpong noted that, government is putting in place measures to partner Civil society and NGO’s to play effective role in the development of prevention and treatment service in hospitals and rehabilitation centres. 

This she said will help control the use of drugs and also care for drug addicts. 

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akuriba Yaagy, asked government to adequately resource the appropriate institutions to actively campaign and educate the people against drug use. 

He said  churches, should not only be interested in taking monies but also play an active role in the campaign through educating their members on the dangers of drug abuse
