Switzerland Surprises Ecuador With 2-1 Win

Estadio Nacional, Brasilia – Switzerland came to the World Cup to accomplish something and they did it, with a surprise victory over Ecuador 2-1.

Valencia scored in the 22nd minute to give Ecuador an early lead over the Swiss, but Admir Mehmedi headed Switzerland level just after the half time.

This is Valencia’s fifth goal in successive games for his country, scored from a Walter Ayovi free-kick.

Haris Seferovic scored in the third minute of stoppage time to give the Swiss a dramatic win over the Ecuador in their opening Group E match.

Switzerland was on a better side as they got some easy chances but fail to capitalize until an injury time stunner by the substitute Seferovic.

Ecuador is finding them on a stage where if they lost another, they have to pack their things up and leave for home; they will face now Honduras on June 20.

Switzerland will now face 1998 World Champions, France on the same day in their second match of the World Cup.
